battle for play offs

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009Posted by: robbo

After missing the last few games through an ankle injury its been frustrating watching the boys and not being able to help. Mind you, i think i shout more when not playing than i do when i am! It was a disappointing result for us in LA in a game where i thought it would be a good time to catch them after their 6-2 defeat the previous week. As the game panned out “becks” was fantastic and with a goal and assist was the major influence on the game. Although we had lots of possession we created very little up front and that was a little disappointing. Great to see julian de guzman make his debut, and he will be a great asset for the club for a number of years to come.

So where do we go from here? Well its simple, we need a minimum of 3 wins to have a chance of making the play offs, even then we might need more but that will put us right in the mix. We face a massive match against chicago at the weekend and this will go to have a big bearing on the outcome of our season. Now is the time for players to step up to the plate, and now there is pressure on each match as a any slip up will cost us big. These games are great to be involved in and have that little extra bit of spice. Its fair to say that we have 4 cup finals left!

As for my own recovery, its coming along nicely and today was my first training day. Strength wise its been fine, but the problem has been the ligaments. With them still being sore, twisting and turning is not a good idea as was shown when i broke down in the warm up at our last home match. I felt i was ok, the physio listened to me but it was clearly not right. Since then, carm (physio) has been great to me in my recovery.

colorado match

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009Posted by: robbo

Ill keep it short as there were not much to talk about. It was a big game for us as we went to colorado for a must win match. Unfortunately we started badly and did not get any better as we lost by a goal to nil thanks to conor caseys header after 54 minutes. What made it worse was that after playing so well against seattle the previous week we went and performed so badly in a big game. Sometimes there is  nothing that the manager can say or do as when players cross the line then it is down to them. Prior to the match i had picked up an injury and was unable to shake it off as there was still a problem with it, so was unable to get out there and help the boys in their defeat. We must now pick ourselves up and prepare for the next match at home to the rapids in a match that now becomes of even bigger importance.

There are press conferences scheduled for tomorrow and maybe thursday as things are happening. Rumors are coming out but i think that everyone will be happy with the outcome.

uk transfer deadline/ week ahead

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009Posted by: robbo

The transfer deadline in the europe came and went yesterday with some great deals, some overpriced deals and some strange deals. I will talk about a few deals that happened as well as the ones that didnt quite get done.

Michael turner went from hull to sunderland for a 12 million pound fee. He had joined hull for 350,000 so it was quite a return for hull as a club. Turner a good solid centre half has been excellent for hull in the premiership but i do feel that the fee is high as it was compared to the fee paid by man city for joleon lescott of 22 million.

James collins moved to aston villa from west ham for 5 million. After turning down stoke earlier in the week he decided to move to villa park and work under martin o neill. Whats crucial for “ginge ” as he is known is to stay fit, as he has all the attributes that top centre halves need to play in the premiership.

Nico kranjcar from portsmouth to spurs for an undisclosed fee but im hearing its only 2.5 million. That is a great bit of business by harry rednapp as he continues to nab pompeys players. He could be key especially as luca modric is out for six odd weeks. He could be the signing of the window.

What also has to be noted is that man utd, liverpool, chelsea and arsenal did not make any big signing as the window closed but tied up players already on their books.

Transfers that nearly happened were matthew upson to spurs, david bentley to man city, david james to spurs and these just to name a few. What you also have to remember is that imagine if you could find out all the moves that nearly happened.

Last week was a strange week for me as i was suspended for the match against seattle. The boys fought to a well earned 0-0 draw but we now face a make or break week as we face colorado both home and away in the next 2 weeks. This will go a long way to defining our season. Lets go lads.
